CHALLENGE

Our PE backed client is a final mile delivery specialist that utilizes proprietary and internally developed web-based technology for efficient delivery execution and transparency, including consumer-facing functionality. The client had much confidence in this solution, consisting of 4 applications, but did not want to invest in a full blown “full tech due diligence”. However, they wanted to understand the high-level software quality and open-source security and IP risks, given the mission criticality of the software and possible future plans to offer it as SaaS.

SOLUTION

The team performed a “Quick Highlight Assessment” on each of the 4 applications. This helped gauge the resiliency, agility and elegance of the software, risks associated with open-source components, and cloud readiness.

RESULTS

Overall, the Assessment reinforced client’s confidence in the system, critical to running the business. They learned of a small number of critical/high severity issues, which although easy to resolve, if not addressed, would be risky. Furthermore, they learned that the cloud readiness score was much lower than they thought, and would be resource intensive to resolve, which the assessment defined in terms of person days. Although cloud readiness was not a risk of utilizing the software to run the business, it set expectations about the heavy lift to become cloud ready, in preparation of any future SaaS offerings.
