A leading and rapidly growing PE backed firm, a full-service kitchen cabinet and countertop retailer providing kitchen design and installation services, utilized a custom web application to manage the sales process, from inception through installation. This mission critical software was being developed by a team in India with seemingly good practices, however a comprehensive code review was never performed to identify quality defects, security and performance vulnerabilities, or open-source direct license issues.

SOLUTION

Rapid Assessment in about 10 days to conduct a structural code quality analysis of the custom codebase to identify velocity improvements and opportunities to increase performance. Benchmarked to peers in the industry (.NET-based apps, JavaScript-based web applications): identify key capabilities required to underpin strategy and fit-gap benchmark. Provide objective results, based on facts / codebase.

RESULTS

Efficiency, central concern to a customer-centric platform, is at a high risk, and could jeopardize customer satisfaction and brand reputation. Overall, the code is easy to change and comprehend: the platform could be improved in a reasonable timeframe, allowing for better scalability in the future with less hardware consumption. Besides Efficiency findings, the benchmark revealed that the platform compares favorably to its peers. Approx. 2k findings for improving the performance and security level of the solution to feed short-, and mid-term action plans: approx. 25 person-days needed.
